Mpumalanga Premier Thabang Makwetla and the MEC for Local Government and
Housing, Candith Mashego-Dlamini will tomorrow visit the Graskop area which was
ravaged by the fires over the past days. Premier Makwetla will receive
humanitarian relief donations from a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) called
Gift of the Givers. This will be given to all fire victims throughout the
province. The donation will include 20 000 food parcels, 500 tents, new
clothing and shoes and 20 000 blankets.
Latest reports indicate that 10 people have died due to the fires, 37 400
hectares of plantations and 15 000 hectares of grazing fields have been
destroyed by the fires. Once again, the department would like to thank all the
different stakeholders, who have worked with the disaster management team of
the province in dealing with the fires.
