Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) has learned with sadness of the
tragic passing on over weekend of Maseru Koaho, an SABC sport journalist.
Mr Koaho was very supportive of our sport development programme,
particularly its contribution to the national development programme. For him,
sport remained a catalyst to propel our country towards meeting the development
targets set for 2014 and beyond.
At the time of his death, Mr Koaho had just covered the send off ceremony in
Tshwane of Team South Africa on 9 July to the 2007 All Africa Games in Algiers,
Algeria.
"I remember the sense of optimism he expressed of Team SA as all athletes
gathered last Friday to prepare to leave for Algiers. He also expressed the
support our country was going to receive from the SABC Team assigned to cover
the games. Mr Koaho had committed to make the build-up towards the 2010 FIFA
World Cup his special project as he believed our country deserves positive and
accurate reporting at this time of need," said the Director General in the SRSA
2010 FIFA World Cup Unit, Dr Joe Phaahla.
Our country has indeed lost a stalwart in the sport reporting fraternity. As
the Department of Sport and Recreation, representing all the sport loving South
Africans, we send our deepest condolences to the Koaho family, colleagues at
the SABC and the rest of the sporting fraternity.
