Mr A Watson (Democratic Alliance, Mpumalanga) to ask the Minister of Basic Education:
(1) Whether, with regard to the (a) Thembisile Hani and (b) JS
Moroka local municipalities in Mpumalanga, regular inspections are carried out at primary and secondary school buildings constructed of pre-fabricated materials such as asbestos and concrete slabs meant for garden walls; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
(2) Whether any reports are available in respect of inspections of such school buildings; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
(3) What plans are in place to replace such school buildings with properly constructed buildings?
Reply:
School infrastructure delivery is the competence of provincial Departments of Education. The province concerned (Mpumalanga) has been requested to provide the required information in (1), (2) and (3), and when we receive it, we will make it available to this house.
