Ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to address you today as we mark the 50th day countdown to the World Table Tennis Championship Finals scheduled to take place on South African soil. 

As the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, let me take this opportunity to express my support to this prestigious event and congratulate everyone involved in making the 50th day countdown to the world table tennis showpiece a reality. 

The upcoming World Table Tennis Championship is a significant event in the sporting calendar, attracting the world’s best players and fans from all walks of life.

We are grateful to the International Table Tennis Federation for granting us the honor of hosting the event and we have no doubt that Mr Joe Carrim’ and his colleagues at the South African Table Tennis Board, will leave no stone unturned to make it a great African experience.

To all international and local dignitaries attending the event, let me extend my warmest welcome and further state that your presence is a testament to the importance of this event and its significance to the world of sports.

Sport, Arts and Culture are important levers of social cohesion and nation building and play a major role in promoting tourism and boosting the economy of our country hence we are grateful to host this prestigious sporting competition. 

As we approach the start of the World Table Tennis Championship Finals, I urge all South Africans to rally behind Team South Africa as they take on some of the world's best. 

In conclusion, I wish all participants the best of luck as their sporting dedication continue to serve as an inspiration to the youth of South Africa.
