Women should be conscious of their strategic value to society because it is through them that a society can either be built and/or destroyed, North West Premier Mme Thandi Modise declared on Tuesday.
In a keynote address delivered on her behalf at the 8th Biennial International Seminar Management Development for Women in Africa held at the International Conference Centre in Durban, Premier Modise said that dignity and respect to women is a priceless commodity and an asset that women should not easily trade.
“It is actually one of the areas that we are mostly violated because those that deny us respect and dignity knows it is one of the most valuable commodities we have. In fact the essence of proper womanhood starts with being given dignity and respect by society and all it institutions,” Modise emphasised
She further said that every injustice against women is a direct consequence of the absence of respect and refusal to accord dignity to us purely on the basis of our womanhood.
She added that one of the greatest dividends of South Africa’s 1994 democratic breakthrough has been a heightened realisation of the position of women in the value chain of power in South Africa.
