Ladies and gentlemen

Today marks another milestone in our country's long journey to youth empowerment. As government we are proud to continue making inroads in the lives of our youths especially in collaborative efforts where our youth can benefit.

South Africa has already launched 2014 Youth Month but government’s efforts has gone beyond just youth month as we continuously work towards improving the lives of our youth.

Through this event, we aim to galvanise and focus our energies and resources on matters pertinent to youth empowerment and development.

Today we are here to mobilise the youth for the fight against crime.

Ladies and gentleman, the fight to improve the lives of our future leaders, our youth is one that government does not get tired to fight.  We note with concern social decay affecting our communities and with great efforts we, as government, forge forward to fight unemployment, drug abuse, crime and all forms of social ills attacking our communities.

As government, our efforts to draw youth away from social decay threatening our communities we are here, as one of the efforts, to address unemployment and idling minds.

As the Department we are here to recruit 40 youth from Roodepan to be part of the fight against crime through government’s Expanded Public Works Programme.  The drive will kick-start here today with Roodepan and flow to Colville, Greater Galeshewe and through to the Province.

This recruitment drive is just but one of the efforts of government in eradicating unemployment in our communities.

Through this drive, our youth will help in the fight against crime, unemployment and lack of skills as it will not only help youth get involved in safe keeping their communities but also develop leadership skills as they take the lead in social crime prevention.

As the Northern Cape Provincial Government we are happy to be here as an ANC elected government to enroll 40 youth in our programme.  We will also hand over blankets to a local NGO which looks after the elderly as we need to look after our elderly especially in these cold winter days.

Congratulations, to our 40 youths.  May you use this opportunity effectively and to the benefit of your lives and communities.

I will now handover, to the officials in calling the 40 Youths forward.
