State President Jacob Zuma has said that “our fight against crime will be a key priority to ensure safer and more secure communities”, in his message of the 2009 election manifesto document. It is important that there is a strong partnership between the policy, the social workers and the community to fight crime, violence and any form of abuse. It will really be encouraging to see from this area being able to come to a police station and provide necessary support to police. We are very proud and excited about developments and achievements thus far, but there are still too many challenges facing us. The executive council has ensured that all the service delivery departments within our government must implement programmes and strategies aimed at empowering women, young people and the disabled both economically and socially.

These strategies will ensure that there is equitable attention to women, men, girls and boys in terms of their social and economic position; non-discrimination access to quality services and equal rights and opportunities for all citizens within the province. This centre will add to these milestones through the support of local community and our non-governmental organisations (NGOs), counselling and other support services to women and children who have been affected by crime will be provided.

In the process of curbing violence against women, police have been fortunate that there are noble people who have come forward and decided to volunteer their services. Their services will not only empower victims of abuse, but will also give them confidence in reporting their cases that will then help in influencing the positive finalisation of their cases by the criminal justice system. I emphasise again the critical role of our social workers in these situation. police must be in close contact with social workers.

Whilst we have introduced a number of policies and legislation that seeks to promote and protect rights of victims, the implementation process has led to us identifying some problems that have led to beneficiaries not getting best service. However, we are now working in ensuring that the identified gaps and weaknesses are dealt with by all stakeholders involved.

I also wish to urge local business people, the farmers of this area and other stakeholders to get involved in crime prevention and combating crime by providing necessary resources to the needy stations and to support this one stop centre.

Re ntse re tsweletse gape re dirisana le di NGO tsa rona ga mmogo le mekgatlo e e tshwanang le Life Line go tiisa le go oketsa ditirelo mo porofenseng ya rona tse di tshwanang le:
