The South African youth speaks

Youth from across the country will converge in Parliament on 28 and 29 June
2006 to engage on issues that are central to their lives. The National Youth
Parliament (NYP) which will take place in Parliament�s Old Assembly Chamber
will become a national platform for discussion over the two days aimed at
mobilising South African youth to play an active role in their future.

The event which coincides with the 30th commemoration of 16 June 1976 will
place a sharp focus on a number of thematic areas. These are:
* youth and economic participation;
* youth and education;
* youth and health.

The two-day event is expected to explore contemporary issues facing South
African youth, provide a critique of youth programmes and contextualise the NYP
2006 during the 30th commemoration of 16 June.

More than 250 participants made up of 10 youth representatives from each of
the nine provinces, 27 from national structures such as the National Youth
Commission (NYC), the South African Youth Council (SAYC) and the South African
Student Union (SASU) will engage with members of parliaments on issues of youth
unemployment, health challenges posed by incurable diseases and their active
participation in the county�s economy under the theme, �All Shall Have Equal
Rights.�
