South African Post Office on service innovation award

Service innovation award for the Post Office

3 November 2006

The South African Post Office was awarded a prestigious service innovation
award last night in the category Innovative use of Information Technology for
effective service delivery at the Centre for Public Service Innovation awards
ceremony in Pretoria.

The award was for its electronic bulk mail delivery note (eBDN) where
customers notify the Post Office through its website before lodging bulk mail
consignments. The customer is given an exact indication of what the consignment
will cost, while the Post Office is able to do accurate crewing at mail centres
since it has a good indication of what mail volumes to expect.

The average debtor's days at the Post Office has halved since the inception
of this project.

The awards recognise successful and effective service delivery projects and
initiatives that have been achieved through the application of innovative
approaches, methodologies and tools.

Benefits for customer

The electronic bulk mail delivery note cannot be completed incorrectly as it
is systems driven and all rates, product codes, etc are kept in the customer
master. Customers can calculate their mailing charges before creating an
order.

Customers are billed and invoiced electronically; which means they can view
their electronic bulk mail delivery notes, invoices and statements. They can
also pay electronically. Account customers will have the ability to verify
available credit.

Customers can print as many copies of the eBDN as they prefer for their own
administrative purposes.

Postbank's Mzansi second in its category

The South African Post Office was runner-up in the category Innovative
Partnership in Service Delivery for its Mzansi project, having been the leading
provider of Mzansi accounts since their inception. On 18 September 2006,
Postbank held 1 155 169 accounts, representing a market share of 51,6%.
