On Thursday, 1 March 2007 detectives from the South African Police Service
(SAPS) High Technology Centre and members of the elite Special Task Force, in
co-operation with detectives from the Limpopo province, arrested a 39-year-old
suspect wanted in connection with a cash-in-transit heist which took place in
the Waterberg area last year in which four security guards were brutally
murdered. The arrest was effected in Pretoria at approximately 12:45.
The 39-year-old suspect, Antonio Ndala, was transported under police guard
to Limpopo province where he was detained and appeared in the Mokopane District
Court today. The case was remanded to 28 and 29 March 2007, when Ndala will
appear with ten other co-accused in connection with charges of armed robbery
and murder.
During the heist on 29 September 2006 in the Waterberg area, SBV Security
Services guards Hennie Botha, Deon Steyn, Marcus Malete and Dirk Kleynhans were
all brutally murdered when the vehicle they were travelling in was ambushed and
set alight. SAPS detectives from Limpopo province, assisted by their
counterparts at Head Office and in other provinces, have worked relentlessly on
this case and will not rest until all members of the ruthless gang are behind
bars.
