Ramadaan
14 September 2007
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sibusiso Ndebele has conveyed his good wishes to all
Muslims in the province who have embarked upon the annual fast during the month
of Ramadaan.
Muslims throughout the world will be fasting daily from dawn to sunset.
Fasting is a trial of physical endurance. It helps build discipline and
patience and is a time for deep reflection. But it is also a means of
developing empathy for the poor and destitute.
Muslims in this country, and indeed in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, have
made significant contributions to the birth and sustenance of our democracy.
Ramadaan affords Muslims a unique opportunity to strengthen bonds of friendship
and family ties among themselves and with their fellow South Africans. Let us
also use this period as an opportunity to re-commit ourselves to help to build
a better life for all, fight criminality, promote development, spread justice
and create jobs for the unemployed.
On behalf of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, to all Muslims in
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and around the world we say: Ramadaan Mubarak.
