Cluster
20 June 2007
The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), the Honourable Mr JS Ndebele, in
conjunction with the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr BH
Cele, have pleasure in announcing that the province of KwaZulu-Natal will be
launching its very own Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster
(JCPS).
The KZN JCPS, to be chaired by the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and
Liaison has been approved by the Executive Council. This will ensure that
strategic planners in the Safety and Security and Criminal Justice arena, who
are from different spheres of government, communicate and plan on common issues
that affect our local communities. In line with resolutions taken at the recent
Provincial Crime Prevention Summit of 21-22 May 2007 it was proposed that the
KZN JCPS Cluster will develop a Provincial Programme of Action, which will
include programmes to address the relocation of children off the streets to
places of safety; dilapidated buildings housing criminals in cities and towns;
alcohol-related offences; moral regeneration; strengthening the partnership
between business and law enforcement agencies and the Stolen Goods
Campaign.
The theme of the launch is "Fighting crime, together with communities" and
the order of proceedings for the launch will include messages of support from
the national ministers of JCPS departments. The Honourable Mr C Nqakula, the
Minister of Safety and Security, will give an address of support and the
Honourable Premier will undertake the keynote address and the launch of the KZN
JCPS Cluster.
The Premier and the MEC would like to invite the Business Community,
Cultural and Religious Leaders, Members of Community Police Forums and Boards,
Senior Managers in Provincial Departments and Local Government, Non
Governmental Organisations and Youth Organisations, communities from
Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas, especially the youth, and any other
interested person to join them at the Royal Showgrounds in Pietermaritzburg at
09h00 for the launch of the KZN JCPS on 23 June 2007. It is expected that
around 5 000 people will attend the launch.
Entertainment on the day will be provided by L'vovo, IThemba & DJ Linda
Sibiya.
Don't miss out on this important event which will usher in the era of
integrated efforts towards the fight against crime.
