Transport
12 April 2006
The MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport in the Free State, Mr Seiso
Mohai issued the following statement regarding the above.
âWe have once again reached the one of the most momentous and sacred times
of the year where mobility and traffic volumes will increase to unprecedented
levels on our provincial and national roads, when commuters will be travelling
to re-unite with their families, friends and loved ones to celebrate the Easter
weekend.
The Department of Public Works Roads and Transport wishes to make this
clarion call to all road users in particular drivers, passengers and
pedestrians to take vigilant precautions when using our roads to preserve one
of the most precious gifts given to us, if not the most important, that of life
itself.
I therefore urge all passengers to demonstrate extra patience and tolerance
towards all drivers of motor vehicles and busses allowing them to drive
responsibly and ensure safe arrival to respective destinations.
All drivers are implored to avoid speeding, reckless driving, driving under
the influence of liquor and to demonstrate an increased degree of tolerance and
patience towards other road users when using our roads. Better late on arrival
than dead on arrival!
Our dedicated and joint endeavours to preserve the gift of life will
immensely contribute towards reduced road mortality, unwarranted and avoidable
loss of life.
I trust that all of us will make use of this special Easter period to relax,
to reflect and to return safely home rejuvenated and eager to take on any
challenges that we may be confronted with, with vigour!
I wish you a very blessed and safe Easter weekend.
Arrive Alive!
One death on our roads is one too many!â
