12 December 2007
The 2007 school year has come and is almost over, leaving us with fond
memories to treasure for the rest of our lives. Memories on how imperative it
is to work together for a common cause. Our cause, being a collective
responsibility to accelerate all efforts aimed at Opening the Doors of Learning
and of Culture to All.
In this context, we were able to rally side-by-side with all stakeholders in
our quest to enhance excellence in our schools. In this endeavour, the
Department has convened important sessions on teacher development; chats with
school principals; held a conference on indigenous languages, held Niyabonwa
Indaba; in an effort to achieve sustainable outcomes for the enhancement of
effective teaching and learning.
A notable positive spin-off is that our schools are showing signs of
embracing the national symbols. The proper singing of the national anthem and
the hoisting of the national flag by our schools are an indication that we are
heading towards the right direction in preserving our heritage.
Also noticed across the province is that almost all of our schools are
beginning to establish food gardens and to plant trees in line with the
Provincial Heritage, Greening Mpumalanga and Tourism Flagship. Indeed,
environmental consciousness and waste management remain an integral part of our
day to day teaching and learning processes.
Of significance, is that our communities are showing an interest like never
before in the affairs of schools and in the context of making the education
enterprise everybody's business. Indeed Ayihlome Ifunde!
The Department remains committed to advancing the cause of a total
transformation of the education system and in adding value to all efforts of
building a better life for all.
In this regard, the Department extends its profound appreciation to all
educators, parents, non-governmental organisations, educator unions, business
and other important organs of our society for the positive role they continue
to play in educating the nation.
It is our wish that this festive season showers you with joy, peace and
prosperity so that when the 2008 school year begins, we are all geared towards
and fully prepared to continuously provide a quality public education to
all.
Ayihlome Ifunde!
