R Mabudafhasi to visit Scaw Metal, 27 Aug

Visit to Scaw Metal to assess compliance to Air Quality
Act

24 August 2007

The ravages of climate change are adversely affecting all global communities
and the governments of the world are lately in consensus to attribute the blame
to human beings' unsustainable use of natural resources. The developing
countries, including South Africa, will suffer the most and witness reversal of
development through natural disasters if the situation continues unabated.

Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) pays routine visits
to big industries to check compliance of emission levels aligned to Air Quality
Act provisions. DEAT also checks if Waste Management Program of industries
contributes to the protection of the environment. Furthermore, DEAT is
interested in the health hazards to surrounding communities as well as the
companies Corporate Social Investment (CSI) and the promotion of women within
management echelons.

The Deputy Minister, Rejoice Mabudafhasi, will visit Scaw Metal on Monday,
27 August 2007, to meet with the company's top management and get first hand
experience of the activities with potential for environmental impact.

The media is invited to be part of the inspection and to interview the
Deputy Minister.
