The Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism Ms Rejoice
Mabudafhasi together with the MEC for Agriculture and Environmental Affairs in
KwaZulu-Natal, Professor G Ndabandaba, will on 22 August 2006 join the
communities of Dukumbane in KwaZulu-Natal to celebrate the commemoration of the
World Day to Combat Desertification.
The significance of the commemoration is to mark the coming into force of
the United Nation Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) but also to
raise awareness amongst the public on measures to take in preventing
desertification and land degradation from happening.
