Dr J C Kloppers-Lourens (DA) to ask Minister of Basic Education

(1) Whether her department has a career counselling programme in place at all schools; if not, why not; if so, (a) how many schools in each province have such a programme in place and (b) how many schools in each province do not have the programme in place;

Reply:

(1) Career counselling in schools is offered as part of Life Orientation, a subject of the National Curriculum Statement, which is compulsory for all learners from Grades 1 to12.

(a) All primary and secondary public schools offer Life Orientation as a compulsory subject.

(b) None.
