The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Transport, Mr Mosebenzi Zwane, has called on South Africans to make use of the extension of the deadline for submissions on the Rail Safety Bill.
The new closing date for submissions has been extended to 18 February 2022.
The committee wants to involve as many South Africans in the legislation making process as public participation is a constitutional requirement and Parliament’s strategic objective.
Mr Zwane said for an aspect of transportation as crucial as rail, more voices needed to be heard. The Bill is intended to, among others, provide for the regulation of railway safety, provide for effective board and governance structures, as well as railway safety permits, and also provide for a legal framework that will make it easy to enforce compliance.
