Parliament on Nkandla security upgrades

The Ad Hoc Committee to consider the report by the President regarding the security upgrades at his Nkandla private residence has met several times to evaluate the response of the President.

The Committee considered all reports pertaining to the business of the Committee, including the reports of the Public Protector, the Special Investigating Unit, the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence and the Inter-Ministerial Task Team. From the outset, the Committee has been clear that it is not reviewing any of the reports, but it is using the information contained in the reports to arrive at its own conclusions.

The Committee has arrived at a number of findings and recommendations that are captured in the final report. The report of the Committee will be submitted to the National Assembly today. Thereafter, a decision will be taken as to when the Committee report will be considered by the National Assembly after the report has been published in the Announcements, Tablings and Committee Reports (ATC).

The adopted Committee report and the legal opinion presented by Parliament’s Senior Legal Adviser, Adv. Ntuthuzelo Vanara, to the Committee on 06 November 2014.
