Deputy Foreign Minister Aziz Pahad to attend International
Ministerial Working Group Meeting on Côte D'ivoire

19 May, 2006

Pretoria - South African Deputy Foreign Minister Aziz Pahad will today,
Friday 19 May 2006, attend the 7th session of the International Ministerial
Working Group (IWG) Meeting on Côte d'Ivoire in Abidjan.

Deputy Minister Pahad jetted out of South Africa on Thursday evening 18 May
2006.

The 6th Ministerial level meeting of the IWG was held on 20 April 2006
during which the report of the Mediation Group was examined and a briefing
received from Prime Minister Banny, the Chairman of the National Programme for
Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (PNDDR), the Chairman of the
Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and the acting President of the National
Commission for Supervision of Identification (CNSI).

In view of the progress achieved in the implementation of the roadmap, the
Group expressed concern regarding the delays in the implementation of the
disarmament process and national identification.

It is expected that the implementation of the simultaneous disarmament and
national identification processes to be undertaken in terms of United Nations
Security Council Resolution 1633 (2005) will be the main issues on the agenda
of the 7th session of the IWG.
