Affairs and Development Planning, Pierre Uys announce winner in provincial fire
and flood safety campaign

Primary school learners within the province have been showing their creative
flare and spreading fire and flood safety messages, through an art competition
that is part of the provincial campaign to reduce the effects of these
occurrences. The Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and
Development Planning, Pierre Uys, will announce the winner today at 12h00 at
the Ikhaya Primary School in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch.
Throughout the past few months several fires have wrecked havoc across the
province, the department's annual fire and flood awareness campaign aims to
educate and inform communities on safety precautions around these disasters.
This campaign which commenced in December 2008 has specially targeted youth to
act as messengers and spread fire and flood safety messages.
