Affairs and Development Planning Pierre Uys
18 February 2009
The Western Cape suffered with high intensity fires the past weeks and many
of the fire fighting budgets of municipalities and other agencies have been
depleted. Minister Uys will give detail of additional assistance to the
province when he welcomes fresh teams of fire fighters from other provinces and
thank those who had been working in overdrive during this period.
A number of nature conservancies suffered losses during these fires. The
provincial Assegaaibos Nature Reserve is one of the latest that had ecological
and other damages. This reserve is situated approximately 8km from Stellenbosch
in the Jonkershoek Valley.
