Presidential Imbizo, 19 to 20 May 2006 in Bophirima District, Taung
Media is invited to the forthcoming Presidential Imbizo. The Deputy
President of the Republic of South Africa, Ms Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, will
visit Bophirima District from the 19 to 20 May 2006 as part of the Presidential
Imbizo programme. Greater Taung Local Municipality will be the host
municipality
The 2006 Imbizo is a continuation of the 2005 intensive programme of
Municipality Imbizo - Project Consolidate. However, it will be more intensified
as more time has been dedicated to the programme. Furthermore, public
participation will be broadened given the fact that at least two consecutive
days have been set aside by the Deputy President. The Imbizo will also be
aligned to the government's Programme of Action, Project Consolidate and the
Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (AsgiSA).
The broader objectives of the Imbizo are:
* continued programme of unmediated interaction between government and the
people
* vehicle for promotion and "implementation" of POA, Project Consolidate and
AsgiSA;
* building the capacity and capability of the state machinery to deliver will
be key and central to the Imbizo
Departments will exhibit their services so that the community may interact
with government officials and receive immediate services where necessary.
The Deputy President will on Friday, 19 May 2006 visit a number of community
projects and interact with stakeholders. On Saturday, 20 May 2006 she will
interact and listen to community concerns during the Imbizo at the Taung Sports
Grounds.
