Government conference

Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will today, August 23, address the
Women in Local Government conference at the International Convention Centre at
17h00.
The Deputy President will be accompanied by the Deputy Minister of the
Department for Provincial and Local Government, Ms Nomatyala Hangana and the
Premier of the Western Cape, Mr Ebrahim Rasool.
The Women in Local Government Conference is hosted by the MEC for Local
Government and Housing, Mr Qubudile Richard Dyantyi. This conference follows
the global 50/50 by 2005: Women in Government, Getting the balance right
campaign which was launched in June 2000 during a special session of the United
Nations (UN) General Assembly, which reviewed the Beijing Platform of Action,
and in March 2002, South Africa became the 11th country to adopt the campaign
representation by 2005.
