The MEC for Finance and Economic Affairs, Paul Mashatile and Johannesburg
councillors will on Friday, 28 July 2006, launch the Gauteng Economic
Opportunities Road show in Ivory Park, Johannesburg.
The road show, which will go to different parts of the province in the year
ahead, aims to give the public direct access to information about how they can
access economic opportunities in Gauteng.
The launch forms part of the Gauteng Provincial Government's (GPG) Public
Service Week to boost service delivery in the province. The road show consists
of a series of two-day events, where government and other agencies will talk
directly to residents to empower them on how to participate in the economy. The
road shows are in line with Premier Mbhazima Shilowa's commitment to promote
shared growth and ensure that a wider section of the population benefits from
growing economic opportunities.
Gauteng communities will have access to various government products and
services designed to accelerate economic empowerment and contribute to the goal
of halving poverty and unemployment by 2014.
They will be conducted in economically disadvantaged areas or economic hubs
such as malls, informal trading places and transport nodes to ensure
accessibility of government information.
Information and services available include consultations for entrepreneurs,
employment opportunities, applications for bursaries, tenders, access to the
GPG portal access as well as pamphlets and leaflets on key government programme
and services. A Gauteng economic opportunities directory will also be
distributed at the events.
GPG departments and agencies such as the Gauteng Enterprise Propeller (GEP),
the Liquor Board and Blue IQ, will make presentations to the public. Among the
participating national departments are the public works, labour and water
affairs and forestry departments.
