Premier Mashatile to officially hand over vehicles to South
African Police Service (SAPS) and launch the anti-truck hijacking unit and
mobile station

Gauteng Premier Paul Mashatile will on Thursday, 12 February 2009, hand over
42 new high performance vehicles to the rapid response team of the South
African Police Service as well as officially launch the Gauteng Traffic
Police's anti-truck hijacking unit and mobile station.

This is part of the Gauteng Provincial Government's (GPG) ongoing commitment
to deal with crime.

The rapid response teams
The rapid response teams are an integral part of the Gauteng Aggravated Robbery
Strategy aimed at combating armed robberies of residences, businesses and
vehicles. In the past five months alone, the GPG has invested in excess of R7
million in these teams.

Anti-truck hijacking unit
The GPG has invested in 20 high powered vehicles and specially trained
personnel for this unit. This unit is deployed on all provincial and national
roads.

SAPS mobile stations
As promised in December 2008, the Premier will unveil the mobile units for the
community of Diepsloot.

Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Firoz Cachalia, SAPS Provincial
Commissioner and other stakeholders will be present at these launches.
