R87 000 to more than R200 000
25 July 2006
The Department of Transport, Roads and Community Safety can today (Tuesday,
25 July 2006) confirm that Mr Ben Mothusi, the official driver to MEC for
Education, the Reverend Johannes Tselapedi, is being sued for the recovery of
an amount of R209 450 and not R87 000 as we earlier reported.
The docket, with the revised and confirmed amount was today forwarded to the
Office of the State Advocate to proceed with the legal action against Mr
Mothusi (42).
The decision to sue Mr Mothusi followed developments arising from the
investigation into a motor vehicle accident that involved MEC Tselapediâs
official car.
The vehicle - a 2003 model black Mercedes Benz E240- was damaged beyond
repair after it ploughed through a fence at house No 1319 in Unit 7, Mmabatho,
Mafikeng, on Saturday, 25 February 2006 at approximately 11h30.
âWe are convinced that Mr Mothusi was not authorised to drive the said
vehicle at the time of the accident. We are also of the view that he lost
treasury cover and have no other option but to request the court to recover the
loss from him.â
