North West to set up Bursary Fund for deserving students

A Provincial Bursary Fund to be called Kgetsi-Ya-Tsie Education and Skills Development Fund will soon be established to help hundreds of Bokone Bophirima students who struggle to pay their tertiary tuition fees. This was announced by Premier Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo who was delivering the State of the Province Address at Mogwase Stadium on Friday 06 March.

Committing the Executive Council to lead by example in establishing and sustaining this Fund, Premier Mahumapelo said the Members of the Executive Council  will on an annual basis, each donate five thousand rand (R5 000) from their personal money, while the contribution from the Premier will be ten thousand rand (R10 000).

“In the spirit of Saamwerk-Saamtrek, we appeal to all role players in the Province to forge partnership with government in this regard, and help government to see this noble initiative through”, said Premier Mahumapelo.

Mahumapelo added that the voluntary contribution of at least one hundred rand (R100) by each provincial government employee and citizen will go a long a way in realising the national goal of opening doors of learning to those in need.

“To ensure prudent administration and accountability of this Fund, a Regulatory Board representing Dikgosi and all relevant role players will be appointed to efficiently and fairly run the affairs of this Fund”, declared Premier Mahumapelo.

The Provincial Government has in the past five years spent at least R68 million per annum in bursaries, for approximately 560 deserving students from across the Bokone Bophirima province.
