The North West Department of Developmental Local Government and Housing has
noted the report of the Adhoc Committee on the 'Memorandum of Demands and
Compliance ' tabled in the provincial legislature today.
The Adhoc Committee was established by the speaker of the North West
Provincial Legislature to investigate allegations of impropriety in the
disposal process of Gathole heights, Kegomoditswe, Tlotli , Kamogelo, Kagiso,
Bothibelelo and the Cottages flats in Mafikeng, Itsoseng flats and Taung fire
flats following submission of a memorandum by tenants residing in the flats.
The flats were disposed through a public auction on the 8 December 2006 by the
North West Housing Corporation (NWHC).
The department reserves its right to comment on the report at this stage
given that the report still has to be considered by the legislature for formal
adoption and its recommendations might still be modified or even rejected by
the legislature.
