North West housing to host historic sod turning ceremony, 17 Apr

Historic sod turning for mining sector contribution towards
housing

16 April 2009

The contribution of Anglo Platinum Limited towards the creation of vibrant
and sustainable human settlements is to be realised through the site hand over
for the construction of 1 000 housing units as part of Seraleng Integrated
Human Settlement Housing Development Project. The Minister of Housing, Dr
Lindiwe Sisulu and North West MEC for Developmental Local Government and
Housing, Howard Yawa are to co-officiate at the historic sod turning ceremony
to celebrate the partnership in housing delivery to be held on Friday 17 April
2009 at Seraleng in Rustenburg.

The project is in line with Breaking New Ground (BNG) housing delivery plan
that seeks to eradicate informal settlements. The strategy is a shift from a
one size fits all approach in housing to promote mixed income and mixed tenure
housing options. As part of the project for the construction of 5000 housing
units, Yawa's department has spend R128,2 million and completed 3 200 BNG
housing units in the area in partnership with Rustenburg Local
Municipality.

Anglo Platinum Limited has contributed R23 million towards bulk
infrastructure for the project. The Chief Executive Officer for Anglo Platinum,
Executive Mayors of Bojanala Platinum District Municipality and Rustenburg
Local

Municipality, Local Government Councillors, Executive Directors and Managers
from mining houses and government are among some of the confirmed guests to
grace the occasion.
