Minister Pandor to address a fundraising event at Pearson High
School, Port Elizabeth

5 may 2006

The Minister of Education, Mrs Naledi Pandor, MP, will tomorrow, Saturday, 6
May 2006 at 14h45 address a fundraising event at Pearson High School, Port
Elizabeth. Pearson High is on Jenvey Road, Summerstrand.

The Minister’s visit to the school was prompted by an invitation from head
girl, Kari Naude. Naude wrote a letter to the Minister in February this year
inviting her as a guest of honour at a “Mother and Daughter Tea”.

Proceeds from the fundraising event will be donated to the schools chosen
charity, the “Mother of Hope” or “Yokhuselo Haven” which is safe house for
abused victims of domestic violence in Port Elizabeth. The safe house has been
in existence since 1988.

Pearson is a public school with more than 800 learners. It is also linked to
the Rotary Foundation and focuses on community involvement.

The theme for the day is “Ladies in Lavender”. It serves to celebrate women,
both young and old. Lavender serves to highlight the qualities of celebration
and healing. The event is meant to be an enjoyable and empowering
afternoon.
