N Mtsweni to host Mpumalanga athletes in football and dance sport, 21

Celebrating the achievement made by Mpumalanga athletes in
football and dance sport

The time has come for South African Football Association (SAFA) Mpumalanga
to re-engineer football in order to position football players within the
province for the successful participation at national level. The MEC for
Culture, Sport and Recreation, Nomsa Mtsweni, will be hosting the celebration
of achievement made by Mpumalanga athletes in football and dance sport.

The aims and objectives amongst other include the following:

* to create a platform for talent identification
* to nature talent through skills development
* to encourage non-racialism and democracy through sport
* to encourage partnership between SAFA, Government and schools
* to celebrate achievements made by Mpumalanga athletes in football and dance
sport
* to encourage women and girls' participation.

Schools are also playing an important role in developing football and dance
sport within schools. Empucukweni School from Hendrina in the Gert Sibande
District is the 2006 champions of the Kay Motsepe Cup; Mphephethe Primary
School in the Nkangala District represented South Africa in Drammies in Italy
and Arsenal Football Club were the Danone under 12 champions for 2006 when
representing South Africa in the international under 12 football tournament in
France.
