Deputy Health Minister Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge will tomorrow launch the
Global Child Dental Health Programme (GCDHT) as part of the celebration of the
national Oral Health Month.
GCDHT has been established to improve child dental health. The launch takes
place at the Lerutlhware Primary School in the Bojanala District of the North
West on Tuesday, 31 July 2007.
Under the theme, 'A health mouth for a healthy lifestyle,' the emphasis will
be on oral health education and promotion, as well as preventive oral brushing
with fluoride toothpaste.
During August, the Department of Health, through provinces, will be engaged
in various oral health awareness activities ranging from:
* exhibitions in public places
* oral health education in clinics, schools, etc on various oral health related
issues like smoking, alcohol, nutrition, HIV and AIDS
* oral health education with emphasis on mothers in antenatal clinics and baby
clinics, with the inclusion of promotion of the use of the oral health charter
in conjunction with the Road to Health Chart
* handling of toothbrushes and toothpaste to promote oral hygiene
* screenings of the mouth, and referral for treatment where necessary.
