Washington to donate funds to victims of Hurricane Katrina
9 January 2006
Washington - South African Foreign Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma
touched down in Washington, United States of America, today (Monday, 9 January
2006) ahead of the scheduled hand over of a donation from the South African
government to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Minister Dlamini Zuma is expected to hand over the donation of R2 million to
Howard University as a gesture of goodwill, solidarity and support on
Wednesday, 11 January 2006.
The choice of Howard University as a site where the contribution will be
made was influenced by the fact that the University has made an amount US$1 000
available towards the studies of students affected by the Hurricane and also
expedited the enrolment process of students thus affected with a particular
focus on students from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
