The Mpumalanga Department of Local Government and Housing has signed a
declaration for partnership with a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Gift of
the Givers, following the fire disaster in the province. The commitment entails
the strengthening of relations with the department, municipalities, the NGO,
communities and other stakeholders. The accord will allow the sharing of
technical, human capacity and other skills when disaster strikes.

Departmental MEC Candith Mashego-Dlamini said the sealing of the
relationship will enable the province and the country in dealing with
disasters. Responding to the recent fires that ravaged the province and the
long-term intervention, MEC Mashego-Dlamini confirmed that the department and
the affected municipalities will look at ways of building houses for permanent
residence to the victims.

Meanwhile the new fires in Mbombela, Albert Luthuli, Emakhazeni, Umjindi and
Bushbuckridge Municipalities have claimed the life of one civilian, nine people
seriously were injured, three houses burnt, over 600 livestock burnt to death
and other equipments damaged. About 500 hectares of grazing land have been
destroyed by the new fires. All but the Umjindi fires have since been brought
under control. The Gert Sibande District Municipality has sent assistance in
