Zero tolerance traffic law enforcement for Zion Christian Church (ZCC) Taung prayer meeting

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono says that about 120 traffic officers will be deployed to maintain a zero tolerance on reckless and negligent driving and maintain high visibility on all the major routes leading to and from Taung this weekend.

The deployment is in anticipation of high volumes of traffic thousands of members of the Zion Christian Church are expected to travel to Taung Sports Ground for a weekend prayer meeting.

The zero tolerance operation on the N18 Mahikeng-Taung-Warrenton road, N12 Potchefstroom-Wolmaranstadt-Christiana road, N14 Krugersdorp- Coligny-Delarayville and Vryburg-Kuruman roads that will include traffic officials from the North West Provincial Road Traffic  Management Unit, Northern Cape Provincial Road Traffic  Management Unit, Tlokwe, Matlosana, Ditsobotla, Naledi, Mahikeng local municipalities will focus on barrier infringement, failure to observe safe following distances and point duty at identified critical points.

As part of the operation, patrols by traffic and police officers are to be intensified as from this evening, Saturday, through to Sunday evening to ensure that there is no opportunistic crime and that roads are safe for usage by all road users.

Motorists who will be driving vehicles to the event are advised to arrange co-drivers and to rest after every 200 kilometers and or two hours of driving to avoid fatigue. Provincial Road Traffic Management authorities urge motorists  to cooperate with traffic officials and to obey signage that will direct them to a demarcated parking reserved for the various types of motor vehicles. ZCC marshals will be deployed to guide motorists on how to park vehicles for swift movement in and out of the parking areas.

All drivers who are local and those driving into Taung are notified that tarred road from Taung Station and Taung village will be totally closed to traffic  as from 15h00 until 20h00 on Saturday through to Sunday until the programme for the event ends at around 17h00.

An alternative route will be made available before PH Moeketsi High school when you drive from Taung Village to Taung Station. From Taung Station the alternative route will go through Taung Extension 6.
