Zero tolerance traffic law enforcement for Zion Christian Church (ZCC) Mafikeng prayer meeting

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa, says that over 70 traffic officers will be deployed to maintain a zero tolerance on reckless and negligent driving and maintain high visibility on all the major routes leading to and from Mafikeng this weekend.

The deployment is in anticipation of high volumes of traffic as an estimated four million members of the Zion Christian Church are expected to travel to Mmabatho stadium for a weekend prayer meeting.

The zero tolerance operation that include traffic officials from the provincial Public Safety Department, Mafikeng, Ditsobotla and Ramotshere Moiloa local municipalities will focus on barrier infringement, failure to observe safe following distances and point duty at identified critical points.

As part of the operation, patrols by traffic and police officers are to be intensified as from this evening, Saturday, through to Sunday evening to ensure that there is no opportunistic crime and that roads are safe for usage by all road users.

Parking for busses is reserved on the eastern side of Mmabatho stadium along the railway line, on the northern side of the stadium and at Montshioa stadium. Parking for all other vehicles is reserved at the Mmabatho stadium parking, Mega City Shopping stadium parking, The Crossing shopping complex parking and the Mmabatho Convention Centre parking.

ZCC marshals have also been deployed to guide motorists on how to park vehicles for swift movement in and out of the parking areas. The stadium road will be closed for vehicular traffic residents as from Saturday. Residents of Lowe Parliamentary village are advised to use the gate on the eastern side.
