The Department of Transport is currently hosting officials from the Transport Department in Zambia who are here to learn more about South Africa's road transport regulations.
The tour, being undertaken by seven officials from Zambia's Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA), will focus on the Road Traffic Act, Cross Border Road Transport Regulations as well as Motor Vehicle Registration.
Chief Director in the Department of Transport Themba Vundla said, "We are working towards efficient, safe and reliable transport in all parts of our continent. We are therefore pleased that our Zambian counterparts are in South Africa to learn more about our cross border, vehicle licensing and traffic law enforcement programmes as well as to ensure improved coordination of intra-continental transport plans."
Deputy Director of Transport from Zambia Robert Mtonga said, "The government of the Republic of Zambia is desirous of amending its road traffic laws and regulations. The RTSA is mandated to implement policy on road transport, traffic management and road safety. Cognizance of the achievements made by the Government of the Republic of South Africa in the area of road transport policy formulation and regulation, the RTSA is inspired to learn from South Africa."
