The Premier of Limpopo Mr Cassel Mathale launched the 2011 June youth month programme. The launch is linked with various programmes that the National Youth Development Agency has lined up in each municipality in the province aimed at benefiting youth.
The various programmes which started with the official launch on 1 June held at the Office of the Premier Polokwane will include among others the Youth Empowerment Tour and Child protection workshop to be hosted in Sekhukhune, school visits in Vhembe, Youth memorial lecture and Provincial Youth Parliament in Capricorn, take a girl child to work in Mopani, and IDP workshop in Waterberg district.
“The youth of 1976 demonstrated an epic resistance against apartheid system in a valiant manner never seen before in the struggle against the oppression of the black majority, Indians, Coloureds, and the progressive whites who renounced apartheid and all its selective benefits” said Premier Cassel Mathale.
This year’s celebrations go under the theme of “Youth Action for the Economic Freedom In Our Lifetime”. According to the Premier, young people in the province will be mobilised in accordance with the essence of this theme.
The Provincial NYDA Chairperson Frans Moswane said they have programmes of action that would take the whole month of June which will reflects the different interests of the youth. Moswane urged the youth in the province to continue working together to ensure that youth development takes place.
The provincial youth month ambassador and radio personality Ashifashabba said they will be embarking on a number of campaign across the province aimed at empowering the youth.
The provincial youth month celebration will be held on 11 June. According to NYDA, the purpose of celebrating June 16 of the 11th is to allow the youth in the province an opportunity to go and celebrate the national youth day celebration of the 16th which will be held in Johannesburg at Orlando stadium. It is a common course that each year the province and South Africa as a whole celebrate the brave role played by gallants of 1976 in bringing about democracy in the country.
