North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa on Thursday said that the 6 000 police who will be deployed in the Host City of Rustenburg and throughout the province will not allow any person to rob those who will be in the province during the world’s greatest sporting event of the thrill of their lifetime. MEC Yawa called on people to shed xenophobia, racism, racial prejudice, religious intolerance, violence and crime and embrace the spirit of Ubuntu, love, peace and joy.
The MEC said that the integrated security team has had enough time to make necessary alterations and adjustment to their security and contingency plans after the Confederation Cup. He assured the Provincial legislature that the province is ready to host the teams, fans, and tourists within a safe and secure environment.
Although Yawa said that police have long been on the ground, they know what to expect and this time around, they will be vigilant, better organised and as sharp as a razor. He has called on people to be the eyes and ears of the police.
“Our police will not be distracted or be caught off guard; they will always be ready to pounce with the speed of lightning. Forces of evil, criminals and hooligans will be given no space to breathe. Our police will neither blink, slumber nor be caught off guard. We will be on top of our game.” he stressed.
He further said that this is not the time for apathy or petty squabbles but a time for solidarity and unity. It’s time for us to hold hands, face and conquer our challenges.”
