North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa has today issued a stern warning to speedsters who disregard road construction stoppage signage by driving through temporarily barricaded roads that are under construction along the Lichtenburg-Koster and Lichtenberg-Mafikeng roads. Intensified law enforcement to reduce accidents on both roads over the past ten days has resulted in issuing of 262 speeding and moving violation summonses to motorists.
“We have adopted a zero tolerance to speeding and reckless driving that endanger the lives of other road users and construction workers on these roads and appeal to motorists to cooperate with measures put in place by contractors for the management of traffic while the roads are under construction,” says MEC Yawa.
Meanwhile, Yawa is to launch joint women operations by the South African Police Service, provincial and municipal women traffic officers at the Maquassi Hills Provincial Traffic Office in Wolmaranstad as part of the department’s women’s month programme.
