Xoliswa Bekiswa to address provincial SANWIT conference gala dinner

South Africa’s fourth black female marine pilot Xoliswa Bekiswa will address the South African Network for Women in Transportation (SANWIT) Provincial Conference gala dinner at the OR Tambo Hall in Mthatha on 30 August 2012 at 8pm.

The 29 year old who also hails from Mthatha will give a motivational speech and share a platform with the Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms Sindiswe Chikunga and the MEC for Transport, Roads and Public Works, Ms Thandiswa Marawu.

She made headlines earlier this year when she guided the MSC Sola which is the largest vessel of its kind to dock in South Africa into the Port of Ngqura.

Bekiswa who has been a licensed marine pilot since 2008, became the fourth black female marine pilot to obtain an open licence in South Africa.

This open license allows her to help navigate vessels of any size and type into South African waters.

SANWIT is a structure that supports the idea of strengthening the role of women in transport and is aimed at recruiting women or women groups as members and coordinate them into an umbrella body.
