On Tuesday 28 September 2010, Government in partnership with SABC1 brought you another episode of the reality show called “Rize Mzansi”. The twelfth episode of this television series featured information on the National Financial Aid Scheme (NFSAS).

Government creates academic opportunities to assists individuals in furthering their academic and vocational skills and it set up the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) , in 2009 NFSAS assisted almost 200 000 students. 

NSFAS offers both bursaries and loans.Bursaries are available for scarce skills in certain teaching certain fields. In social work, accounting, economics, actuarial science, engineering, science, computer science.  

For teaching bursaries applicants can apply through the Department of Higher Education and Training or a university Financial Aid Office. 

Social work bursaries should be applied for through the Department of Social Development.

For economics and accounting applicants should apply through the department of Trade and Industry (dti).
