A driver was found in position of dagga worth R3 000 during a road block conducted by Women at Wolmaransstad over the weekend. The road block which was one of the major activities marking women’s month activities within traffic stopped about 315 vehicles, where 48 summons amounting to R45 000 were issued, ranging from overloading, wrong routes, driving without licences and other related traffic offences.
Meanwhile traffic officials reported two accidents since Friday. A driver was fatally wounded after the vehicle he was driving collided head on with a bus on the N14, just 12 kilometers from Ventersdorp to Krugersdorp. The driver of the vehicle died and the bus driver including 12 passengers escaped with serious injuries and were admitted to hospital.
Jaws officials also reported an accident where a driver lost control and crashed the vehicle he was driving on the Mafikeng-Lichtenburg road. The driver was since taken to the local hospital with serious injuries. Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
MEC for Human Settlements Public Safety and Liaison Nono Maloyi appealed to motorist to be extra careful and adhere to traffic rules. He further commended our women traffic officers who continue registering success rate during Women's Month for making sure that lives are saved on our provincial roads.
