Women joint operation nets 51 motorists for road traffic violations

Fifty-one motorists were slapped with summonses during an Inter-Provincial road block, conducted by women traffic officers from North West and Gauteng Provincial Road Traffic Management Units held on the N4 Bakwena Highway on Friday afternoon.

Six hundred vehicles were stopped at the roadblock held near the Britz Plaza Tollgate and border between North West and Gauteng provinces. Seventeen of the summonses were issued for motorists for driving without driver’s licenses, 15 for driving unlicensed motor vehicles and scores others for driving vehicles without public driving permits.

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono says that the special operations to celebrate August women’s month which enters its  third and final week this coming week has thus far pinched 580 offenders for road traffic violations.

The operations are part of the National Rolling Enforcement Plan which is aimed at reducing lawlessness and fatalities on public roads and supports the United Nations’ 2011-2020 Decade of Action for Road Safety campaign.
