The Western Cape has earned a spot on the “ultimate list” of the world’s best hotels.
La Residence in Franschhoek has been named as one of top 26 hotels by the Business Insider website.
The news comes in the same week as the Lilizela Tourism Awards which recognise service excellence in the Western Cape’s tourism sector.
The Business Insider list is formulated using scores from the leading global lists. These are Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Hotel Awards, Conde Nast Travelers Top 100 Hotels and Resorts, Tripadvisor’s Top 25 Hotels in the World and the Fodor’s 100 Hotel Awards.
Alan Winde, MEC of Economic Opportunities, said the Business Insider ranking was the latest in several accolades for the province’s hospitality industry.
“I would like to commend La Residence for delivering excellent service to its visitors. They have garnered international exposure for themselves and for the destination as a whole. I am confident this will encourage even more international guests to visit Cape Town,” said MEC Winde.
On Thursday, MEC Winde will announce the provincial winners of the Lilizela Awards. The Western Cape winners will go onto compete in the national competition later this year.
“I wish our finalists well ahead of Thursday’s ceremony. The Western Cape had an excellent showing at last year’s national awards. Our establishments set the standard for service excellence and I’m pleased to see we have another group of high quality entrants this year,” said MEC Winde.
This year 224 entries were received across seven different categories. Out of these, 27 winners will compete in the national awards. MEC Winde will announce the winners of the provincial Lilizela Tourism Awards at a ceremony on 11 September 2014 at the Hotel school in Granger Bay at 3pm.
