It’s a bumper month for the Cape Town International Convention Centre, with the venue hosting a range of diverse events. Alan Winde, MEC of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, said the venue’s schedule for this month showcased its versatility.
Cape Town’s marketing industry converges at the CTICC today for the Annual Marketing Indaba. This weekend the Indian Shopping Expo kicks off, featuring wares from several Eastern countries. Close to 15 000 people are expected to visit the expo over a nine-day period.
Later this month the CTICC hosts Hostex Cape 2014, Fine Brandy Fusion and Food Hospitality World Africa. MEC Winde said the CTICC was an important economic catalyst.
“Over the past nine years, the CTICC has contributed nearly R20 billion to South Africa’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It is projected that the CTICC will add R22 billion to the national GDP over the next five years.”
MEC Winde said the CTICC was driving the Western Cape’s lucrative meetings economy.
“The CTICC will host several international conferences later this year. Together these will attract 20 000 delegates. In the last financial year, Wesgro, the Western Cape’s trade, investment and tourism destination promotion agency, secured 19 conference bids worth R347 million to our economy. Business tourism is very lucrative as these travellers spend more than leisure tourists, which in turn creates more jobs,” said MEC Winde.
