The Department of Water Affairs, Eskom and the Mpumalanga Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs would like to inform the residents of Davel and Ermelo in the Msukaligwa municipality and Ga-Nala and Thubelihle in Kriel in the Emalahleni municipality that there will be a water shut down in these areas from Tuesday, 15 May 2012 to Monday, 28 May 2012.
The shutdown will be due to a major infrastructure refurbishment needed to optimise the efficiency of the water system that provides water to these areas. During this shut down there will rationing of water in Davel and Ermelo and a complete shutdown in Kriel.
During the water shut down, interim measures will be put in place by government to provide water through water tankers and jojo tanks that will be deployed in strategic areas of the affected municipalities.
Communication will be rolled out to the affected areas through community meetings by councillors and other structures to inform residents of the schedules of the delivery of water by the water tankers, tips on how to save water during the shutdown and contact numbers should communities experience problems during these periods.
Communities are urged not to pay from water tanks as this water is for free. If they are made to pay for the water they must report this to their Councillors immediately.
Residents who have the capacity to stock up water in tanks are urged to do so before 15 May 2012. People must not wait until 15 of May 2012 to stock up on water. All residents including businesses and schools are urged to work with government during this period to save as much water as possible. It is important to note that this shut down will place a tremendous strain on everybody.
