Water and Sanitations on consolidating and implementing Africa water agenda

The work of the Department of Water and Sanitation’s (DWS) International Water Cooperation (IWC) is informed by the country’s National Water and Sanitation interests and priorities in line with the relevant foreign policy frameworks.

Some of these policy frameworks include consolidating and implementing the Africa Water Agenda, according to the Deputy-Director General of the IWC, Lindiwe Lusenga.

Addressing a recent meeting between DWS officials and representatives of the Water and Sanitation Sector Leadership Group (WSSLG) at Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre near Boksburg, east of Johannesburg, Lusenga stressed that one of the most important points to be considered in terms of some policy frameworks is that DWS needs to position the country’s water agenda on the global and multilateral systems.

She said that there were three platforms that the IWC works through to achieve their objectives. These are Bi-laterals, Tri-laterals and Multi-laterals and added that it is the Minister, Nomvula Mokonyane who always provides political leadership on what is to be done.

Some strategic considerations for the sector include vetting of the incoming and outgoing delegations including attraction of investments for the sector.
