Water and Sanitation on Western Cape dam levels

Western Cape dams storage stable

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) in the Western Cape wishes to inform water users about the water situation in this province.

Sputnik Ratau DWS National Spokesperson says the main storage dams of the Western Cape Water Supply System (WCWSS) are the Theewaterskloof, Voëlvlei, and Berg River dams, owned and operated by the DWS, and the Wemmershoek, Upper - and Lower Steenbras dams, owned and operated by the City of Cape Town. The combined level of the WCWSS is 99,87% as compared to 100,39% last week.

The Theewaterskloof which is the largest dam in the province is at 101,17% as compared to 101,60% last week. Miertjieskraal and Klipheuwel Dam are the only dams that have seen an increase of over 5%.

As we fast approach the end of the hydrological cycle, at the end of October, DWS in conjunction with the respective stakeholders will deliberate and review the water situation and take appropriate decisions to safeguard future water security of the province.
